1926 P J Sinnott founded a new club for Collie dog enthusiasts.
Mr. P J Sinnott founded the ‘All Ireland Collie Club’ in 1926. In 1927 the club became affiliated to the Irish Kennel Club, and Mr Sinnott became the Secretary and Delegate, positions he was to hold for the next 50 years!
In those days the club was primarily a Rough Collie Breed Specialist Club, but as Mr Sinnott and many of the original committee members were also interested in sheepdog trials, a sizeable number of Border Collie fanciers joined.
This mixture of members caused quite a lot of controversial discussions regarding the name of the club. The Border Collie section wanted the name changed to "Working Sheepdog Club", or "All Ireland Sheepdog Society", and the Rough Collie showdog section wanted "All Ireland Collie Club".
However, a compromise was finally reached, and in 1936 the name of the club became..........The All Ireland Collie & Sheepdog Society.
